ASLAND academy ~ Just adding a Tid Bit! ;)
May 7 2008, 11:19 AM EDT I would like to add my 2 cents! My kids have also been participating in this school for the past school year. Andrew has been in the Core class (0-8) and Alanna has been in the Love of Learning class (9-12). It should be noted that the ages are loosely followed as the Thomas Jefferson style is to be directed by the kids interests, especially in the younger ages. The younger classes do work differently than the scholar age classes as there is no set curriculum. This has proven to be a challenge at times for the mentors to try and keep up with all the kids and their varying interests. It has also been a lesson to the kids at times that, because this is a group situation, they will not get to do exactly what they want exactly when they want to. A minor correction on the scholar classes that will be offered next year. For new students there will be a class following the Uncle Eric series (Whatever Happened to Penny Candy and Whatever Happened to Justice) for half the year with science the other half. There will also be a Shakespeare class offered. Although, I can't speak for the scholar kids, I can tell you that my kids have been thrilled with the experience and are looking forward to next year. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: ASLAND academy ~ Just adding a Tid Bit! ;)
Nov 2 2008, 11:54 PM EST Hi there, Are your kids doing this program this school year, or just last year? I have never heard of this program. Sounds interesting. We are actually not too happy with HOPE this year. Last year was a much better experience for us. I am not thrilled about the content of their textbooks, as they are secular, of course. I just feel like my kids are back in public school all over again, and that is what we were trying to avoid. I will probably pull them from the program, and start a co op on Fridays instead. I am going to pray about it. Do you find this valuable? |
