International Towne teaches children about the role of free enterprise in the global economy through an array of International economic concepts including interdependence, world trade, foreign currency exchange, and importing/exporting.

The Towne is comprised of four regions: AmeriLat, EuRussia, MidAfri, and PacAsia, representing 16 countries from these areas of the world. Children transform into country Presidents, Finance Ministers, Customs Agents, Global Peacekeepers, Artisans, Bankers, DJs, Freight Carriers, Museum Guides, Carpenters, News Reporters and more.

While at Towne, our “world citizens” provide goods and services to other countries and “tourists,” and take turns being tourists themselves, using passports to “travel” between the countries, participating in cultural activities, and purchasing foods and souvenirs using currency they have earned for performing their jobs.

The targeted age group is between 12-14, but kids between the ages of 7-14 participated last year with wonderful success and fun. No matter what age, the children enjoy participating in all of the jobs and learning at their own level.

• Young American has created a curriculum to guide your student at home in learning about International Towne.

• Parents are responsible for reviewing the material in this curriculum with their students prior to the group training dates.

• We will cover several chapters out of the curriculum during the group training sessions and specifics will be provided prior to the first training session.

• In the first training session,
  • Children turn in a completed job application
  • They will have an interview with an adult volunteer.
  • Children will nominate and vote on Towne laws,
  • Play several group games out of the curriculum,
  • enjoy an International Taste Test,
  • Learn about the history of flags and their symbolic meanings.

• In the second training,
  • Children receive their job assignments and job training for their day in Towne.
  • They create a regional banner with their personal flags.
  • The country Presidents will conduct a Country Meeting where, as a group, they will write TV, radio, and newspaper ads, and prepare a country presentation.

Adult Volunteers Needed: ~

• Before group training sessions: 2-3 folks needed to help organize volunteers
• 5/9/08 to:
  • Conduct interviews
  • Bring dishes for International Taste Test
  • Facilitate group games (about 10 - 15 folks needed)

• Between 5/10-5/14 to help assign students' jobs after interviews (2 or 3 folks needed)
• 5/16/08 to conduct job training and assist with country meetings where students work together to write advertisements (about 13 - 17 folks needed)

• Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable.
• Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid.
• Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable. If unsure, ask your stylist.

• Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches.
• Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails.
• Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the minimum 10 inches.
• Hair that is 6-10 inches in length will be accepted and sold at fair market value to offset the manufacturing costs.
