Young Thespians Group – July 17th 12:00pm
What:
I have been searching for a group to introduce my children to the many different elements of theater. After not finding quite what I was looking for, I decided to start our own group!
This is a student led group and hopefully many new skills will be developed! Students can join one or all of the following groups:
The Academy of Home Educated Dramatists – These students will be doing a lot of their work online to create a script for our play. We have many options available including the ability to schedule online "meetings" where all students could work on the script simultaneously! Unless we have some VERY ambitious children we will probably use a pre-written script from public domain that we edit as necessary. The students will be responsible for all elements of the writing/adaptation and we will have at least one class in which basic elements of playwriting will be introduced. If the students decide to write/add musical piece(s) we can do a class on songwriting as well. This group will also make the programs/playbill for our big night (or day!) and those who are not acting can act as ushers.
The Best Boys (and girls) Technical Group – These will be the set makers, lighting guys, and all other “behind the scenes” functions of producing a play. No one is too young or old for these jobs! All that is required is some creativity and some free time! This group will begin meeting once the basic script is completed and will have at least one basic class introducing set design and other technical elements. Those not acting can also help feed lines and get the actors ready backstage during our performance.
The Homeschool Actor’s Colony– These students will be our actors/actresses! After a basic class introducing monologues and improv, these students will spend most of their time meeting in person (number of sessions to be determined) with one dress rehearsal before the final performance. These students will help design their own costumes including how to make them. Yes, we will have a basic sewing class! (Don't let the costumes intimidate you - they can be as basic or as elaborate as you choose!)
Ages: All Ages Welcome
Costs: No Costs – we will be making our own sets and costumes and hope to obtain the materials through the community. Save that scrap fabric and extra art supplies!
Interested?
RSVP below and come to our planning meeting on July 17th at 12:00P. Bring your lunch and your calendar and we will have a “mini class” to start some brainstorming and set meeting dates for the rest of the group. This will also get a chance for the kids to get to know one another. We will be meeting tentatively at Sister City Park (address to be provided later - near Hampden/Wadsworth in Lakewood) In the case of inclement weather (since this IS Colorado!) we will meet at the Clubhouse at Tanglewood Oaks apartments.
There is something for everyone! I mean that! I bet we can even work the babies in if you would like.
