YMCA Youth in Government
Calling all high-school-aged homeschoolers! A *great* opportunity is coming up!
The Colorado YMCA Youth in Government will be held in November (with training dates in October--please see the attached fliers below. There is one for Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Douglas County). This program allows students from all over the state to assemble in the Colorado State Capitol Building to form a mock legislature. Participants can sponsor resolutions and bills, and each will assume an actual role (ranging from Page to President of the Senate) in the legislature. Each participant will experience, first hand, how legislation is produced, presented, and debated (sometimes very hotly!). This program is a very realistic way to experience government in action as, like in the real thing, participants come from all perspectives and walks of life. It is fun, exciting, and extremely informative. Students are urged to attend one of the training dates (and can do so just to check out the program) before the Prelegislative Convention on Oct. 25 and the General Assembly (starting the evening of Nov. 19 and running through the 21st). Cost is $70 per student, and is money very well spent. I attended this program twice while in high school, and it is one of the most beneficial and memorable things I did during those years. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or to check out the Youth in Government website:

I think adding homeschool perspectives to the legislative action in Youth in Government will make it a more beneficial experience for all.
